FREE Parent Support Group - August 03, 2010 6-7:30pm

   For parents and caregivers of a child with a mental health challenge:
Key Concepts:
• Provide participants the recognition that they are not alone
• Offer a safe place to tell their story
• Empower personal responsibility and a place to learn advocacy skills
• Help participants develop new skills
• Help participants develop new informal supports
• Provide participants new information

1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month

ADHD Groups for Kids and Parents - August 11, 2010 See below

   Kids: You will learn how to avoid getting into trouble, make and keep friends, excel in school and feel good about yourself.
Parents: You will learn the basics of ADHD, strategies for coping with your child’s behaviors/emotional/social difficulties and ways to cope with stress in the family.
Best of All—You get to do it Together!

8 groups, lasting one hour each
Wednesdays from 4 - 5 p.m. (for ages 5 - 9)
Wednesdays from 6 - 7 p.m. (for ages 10 - 14)
Group begins August 11th and will end on September 29th
Location: Head Quarters for Heart Change building, 225 N. 23rd. Street, Billings, MT
Cost is $35 per session, Insurance accepted.

Practical Applications of Neuroscience in SED kids - August 16, 2010 9-4, lunch on your own

   The biology and development of our brain has become the latest of "hot topics" in how to work with children and families. We have a lot of theoretical information and are trying to understand how to implement these theories in our everyday work with children. This workshop will discuss the theory and then give the Practical Applications that we can use everyday with children and families. Participants will learn creative ideas for de-escalating children, helping them regulate their emotions, and identifying what is driving their behavior.
